Engineering Unit Two
University of California, Davis
Engineering Unit Two is located at the intersection of the two organizational
grids that define the UC Davis campus. The entry to the building, which
is sited on the city grid, is linked to the major outdoor courtyard
by a series of plazas that follow the agricultural grid. Within the
main courtyard, two plazas are defined by low seat walls. One encloses
a paved area with a fountain; the other encloses a small lawn which
provides informal seating. Flowering almond trees recall the campus’ agricultural
heritage and the orchards found throughout the Central Valley. The
plant palette of Mediterranean species was developed in collaboration
with the University Arboretum.
Project completed by Stephen Wheeler while with Wallace
