This residence in the Chalk Hill area of Sonoma County is set in the hills east of Healdsburg, and includes vineyards, ponds, and a new barn and house for the owner. The barn is surrounded by a new olive orchard and a kitchen and cutting garden. The house is sited on an oak and madrone-covered hillside above the vineyard and has dramatic views of the property and the surrounding countryside. Stone walls enclose the graveled auto court, pool deck, perennial garden, and the lawn terraces that flank the house. A simple palette of plants, including crape myrtle, ceanothus, lantana and horsetail were selected for their form and color to complement the architectural character of the house.
