Over Sixty is a multi-use facility in a residential neighborhood in Berkeley. The four-story facility provides day and health care services for the elderly as well as 37 units of assisted senior housing. A key component of the project is the second-story roof garden that is easily accessible from the main public rooms of the building. The terrace is used by residents, day-use clients and staff for relaxation, socialization, and gardening programs organized by the center. The garden was designed to provide seating in the sun and shade, as well as shelter from the prevailing winds. The plants selected for their scent, color and texture, provide year-round interest for the residents.
